Principal's August Message

August 14, 2017

Dear Panther Families,

The first day of school was a success! It was great to see all of the excitement and listen to the stories from summer. I would like to share some tips for success:

  1. Please make sure your student does their assignments every night and uses their planner
  2. Students need to be kind, polite and respectful on campus and in the community
  3. If a student needs help, please have them ask a teacher or you start the conversation with the teacher and then engage your student
  4. Use class time and access time wisely; all work needs to be completed in all classes

I would like to thank everyone for such a smooth drop-off and pick-up. Our students used the crosswalks and parents took their time driving around the campus. Student safety is number one and your awareness to the school zone is very much appreciated. Remember that buses have priority from the trash dumpsters until the stop sign at the end of the parking lot 15 minutes before school starts and 30 minutes before school gets out. Students should always use crosswalks and bikes/scooters/skateboards should be walked on campus and in the crosswalk.

As you have probably heard, there will be a Solar Eclipse on Monday, August 21st. We have purchased the special viewing glasses for everyone in the school. I have encouraged staff to bring their students outside for the Solar Eclipse. I do ask that you remind your student that when the Solar Eclipse is taking place, the glasses must be worn appropriately. We will review the safety guidelines in every class as well.

Below are some reminders for the next few weeks. The magazine drive helps raise money for our student body. Events and expenses such as Field Day, lunch activities, after school sports and rallies are covered from the proceeds of the magazine drive.

Some reminders for the upcoming week are:

  1. Students will be receiving their textbooks in their classes.
  2. There is a Back to School Assembly for students on Friday morning. We will present information about the Access Period and Character education.
  3. Students report to their Access period on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.

In the coming weeks, we have the following events taking place:

  1. Back to School Assembly for students – 8/18 – 8:00 am
  2. Solar Eclipse – 8/21
  3. Magazine Drive Assembly – 8/23
  4. Make-up pictures – 8/24
  5. Back to School Night – 8/24 – 6:00 pm
  6. Danville Teen Center opens – 8/28

Thank you for all of your support whether it is through donations, volunteering or supporting your student with academics. I believe everyone is looking forward to a great 2017/2018 school year.
