From the Principal:

Welcome to the start of another exciting school year. I want to especially welcome our new 6th grade parents and all 7th and 8th grade transfers from other schools. Los Cerros is a dynamic community with many opportunities for partnership and I look forward to a year of working together in support of student growth. As with every school year there are always a few new challenges and for Los Cerros these include construction, a new bus program, a slightly altered school schedule, and a new on-line registration process.

Construction has progressed this summer on our new kitchen facility but the completion date isn’t until early 2010. This means on occasion there may be the sounds of construction on campus but I promise your child’s education and safety will not be impacted. The work area is well fenced, the employees are all fingerprinted and cleared for school sites, and the staging area is fenced off so there will be no contact between students and construction employees.

TRAFFIX – the traffic congestion alleviation program begins on the first day of school. Many of you have signed up for bus passes and taken advantage of the early discounts. Their web link is www.RideTRAFFIX.com or you may sign up during our registration. The impact of busses on campus will depend on the number of cars removed from our morning and afternoon traffic patterns. I want to encourage you to allow your child to utilize all non-automotive modes of transportation to school. Because we are a community school many students chose to walk, skateboard, or bike to school. The additional option of a bus should mean even fewer cars.

The school class schedule has changed slightly to accommodate the bus schedule. Our start time is now 7:55 with a 2:25 dismissal except for Wednesdays when we begin at 9:20 and we dismiss at 2:35. These changes were made to align our bus schedule with our local elementary schools Green Valley and Vista Grande.

Our registration paperwork and the donation process are now on line. Los Cerros walk through registration is Wednesday and Thursday from 4 – 7pm. We hope the on-line availability will help expedite the registration process but like all new procedures there may be bumps along the way and we ask for your patience should that occur.

During the year I invite you to email or call me if you have any concerns but just as importantly I want to hear from you when things are going well. I look forward to getting to know all of our new students and welcoming the return of the others.
