Dear LCMS Community:

I hope everyone had a relaxing winter break.  Perhaps mine was too relaxing.  I'm having a hard time getting back into the swing of things! Now that my 2013 family calendar has arrived, I need to start filling in the dates with all the amazing opportunities available in January.

Please plan on attending the first PTA meeting of 2013 on Thursday, January 24th at 9 am in the teacher's lounge.  Parent Pam Aha from the LC Site Council will be on the agenda.  Have you ever wondered what it is that these elected parents DO??  Come find out!  A representative from Boosters will also be on hand to provide an update.  

It's hard to believe, but planning for the 2013-14 PTA school year starts at this meeting.  We will elect a nominating committee to fill PTA Executive Board and Committee positions.  If you're interested in being on the nominating committee or are interested in serving on the board or on a committee, drop me a note!  (You can see the existing board and committee positions on the PTA Roster document to the right.)

Deb Brumley, LC Boosters President, is also looking to fill a number of key positions for the 2013-2014 school year.  Please contact her directly if you are interested in learning more:  debrumley@comcast.net.

Have you read any good books lately?  I actually had the chance to read over the holiday and would recommend the following thought-provoking books:

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks (Rebecca Skloot)  and 

How Children Succeed: Grit, Curiosity, and the Hidden Power of Character.

If you've read these books and would like to discuss, let's chat after the PTA meeting!  I would love some recommendations to add to my list, as well.

PTA General Membership Meetings are typically held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 9am in the LC Staff Lounge.    These meetings are informal, educational and are a great way to stay informed.  The food is fantastic, as well, thanks to our fabulous Hospitality Chair, Jenny Khan!

Volunteer:

There are many volunteer opportunities available to you at LCMS.  Help supervise a lunch period; work in the office or library; serve on a committee; help with a fundraiser. Be involved as much or as little as you like, but be involved.
